hello 2010.

i'm not very good at summing up a whole year. to be honest, i can hardly remember january 2009. and, i can't blame it on the baby...this was a problem way before either babies. but, i do have a few things in mind for 2010, the start of this next decade. i'm going to attempt to bake a loaf of bread, even if just once. i have such a fear of bread baking and i need to get over it already. i'm going to be less afraid to fail. in fact, i'm going to aim for a spectacular failure of some kind at some point this year. (i nearly accomplished this already with a coconut cream pie on new year's eve but it turned out mediocre not horrible.) and, i'm going to wing it more often. plan it less and go with it, have fun. the kids are young and i'm getting older, what do i have to lose?

Edited to add: I almost forgot, I also resolve to give my husband the bigger slice. Not only because he deserves it but because I don't always need it. Unless we are talking lentil pie or something, which we are not.

I hear so much about this book but I'm still scared! Alright, I resolve to at least check out this book. It's a start.

Happy New Year! I agree the bread is the easy part. The waiting for it to cool so you can eat it all up? Well, that's the hard part.

The book is awesome, and don't worry too much about the details (i.e., baking stone). I bake mine on a cookie sheet with parchment paper underneath and it turns out just fine. Also, start with a half recipe - it's less dough to work with the first time around.

Can't wait to hear about your bread success!
