(Another) Vintage Sheet Swap

I'm all swapped out from the one hosted by Oh Fransson!, but for those of you interested here's another one that just started! I highly recommend participating. It is so fun hunting down the linens and sheets and you can't imagine what you'll get in return - it's too cool. Looks like this one is limited to a few folks so sign up soon if you're interested. Have fun! (Photo is from Crafty Little Beana.)

Ok. I signed up but now I need help. What is a fat quarter and how do I know when something is vintage? I'm excited but kind of freaked out that I'm going to be a bad partner. I figure I have something in my stash to share, right?

The first question is the easier one - fat quarters are pieces of fabric that are cut to pre-sized rectangles: 18 inches by 22 inches.

Now, as far as telling whether something is vintage or not is trickier. There isn't a database or reference or website or anything so you have to go with your gut when it screams, "Boy, that looks like it's from the 50's", 60's, etc. I had the best luck with pillowcases at thrift stores and church-basement sales. Sheets are another safe bet. I think that if you are nervous, check out the flickr site that Oh Fransson! set up for all the contributors.

Here you'll see a wide variety of fabrics represented. You can also look more closely at the pics on my blog to see what I sent in & what I received in return.

Have fun - I look forward to seeing what you come up with and hearing all that you learn!

p.s. I didn't get it right the first time - you'll see one set in the first round I sent in that really isn't vintage - it's probably more 1980's (the blue and yellow hydrangea-looking floral). But, people were nice and didn't say anything. I just learned about my mistake by looking, looking and learning from others. To make up for my guilt over the mistake, I sent in another round of fabric - all of which I am pretty sure was vintage.

Thanks for posting about my swap. Elizabeth from Oh Fransson seemed a little overwhelmed by the size of her swap. She advised me to set limits. I will be flexible though. Also about the vintage sheets, I like the way you defined it. I am totally not picky. I love to see the variety of prints :)
